Bresnan Broadband Proposal
New York-based Bresnan Communications wants to spend $70 million of taxpayer money to build a broadband telecommunications network in Montana where broadband networks already exist and are provided by Montana based rural companies. Bresnan isn't alone, either. There are other companies that want to use taxpayer funds to overbuild existing telecom networks in Montana. Why would we want to waste our tax dollars duplicating something that's already built? By duplicating existing networks, these money-chasers will take away current rural jobs, reduce investment, and curtail economic development in Montana.
Please write to the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and the U.S. Development of Commerce/National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and urge them to deny Bresnan's application and other applications that would duplicate existing networks in Montana. Please copy Senators Baucus and Tester, and Congressman Rehberg.
