Performs required work in connection with the maintenance, repair, servicing, and testing of all types of central office, light wave, and related equipment. Responsibilities include: Responsible for all maintaining and monitoring all central office equipment, carrier equipment, data network and associated items; Assist in installs, maintains, and test all types of central office facilities, toll and subscriber carrier systems, and associated equipment; Montors quality of tolls, EAS, special circuits, routers, switches and other subscriber carrier facilities; Takes trouble reports and clears trouble; Tests, maintains, evaluates and assists in performance records of all other equipment of the central office system such as customer's line equipment, central office switching gear and common eqiupment, trunks leaving and entering central office, billing and traffic metering equipment, etc. Work with third party maintenance, vendor facility staff to troubleshoot and resolve issues. Generally responsible, under limited supervision, for all aspects of normal exchange operation. Supervise and performs engineering services on central office, transmission, broadband data, video and mobile & fixed wireless telecommunications facilities. Analyzes and provides management with information on availability and pricing of telecommunication technology and services. Analyzes and evaluates existing communications networks and infrastructure. Calculates and recommends upgrades or restructuring of equipment or routing to meet emerging requirements. Ability to work and effectively communicate with management, peers and outside vendors. Strong analytical and problem resolution and organizational skills. Strong ability to work on and prioritize multiple concurrent projects while meeting aggressive deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with minimal supervision. A Bachelor of Science Degree in engienering or other relevant field is highly desirable but not required. Minimum requirement is an Associated Technical Degree or five years related work experience. Three years in a telecommunications supervisory capacity is preferred but not required. Specialized training and experience in telecommunications may be substituted for education. Experience in a cooperative or non-profit setting is helpful. Computer and drafting skills are mandatory. Accomplishes technican activities in a manner that will produce the expected level of results. Responsibilities: Place direct buried cable using digging and trenching equipment; perform various aerial duties including climbing poles, installing or removing cable, installing "messenger strands", "lashing" telephone cable around messenger strand, transferring cable and equipment from old pole to new pole; Restore all disturbed surfaces, such as concrete and bituminous payment, trim trees and perform other landscaping duties as necessary; place cable within the underground conduit system; maintain underground conduit system and performs construction duties as required; set telephone poles by using pole truck, digging machinery and various types of bracking methods and equipment; prepare time sheets and accident reports as required; is familiar with the considerable hazards that exist in connection with the construction or maintenance of any phase of outside plant work. This includes falls, electric shock or flash, falling objects and traffic.
