On May 17, 1955, the Montana Telephone Association (MTA) was founded in Great Falls, MT. Now called the Montana Telecommunications Association and located in Helena, MT, MTA just celebrated its 50th Anniversary, continuing to provide government affairs, communications, training and education, trade shows and related services to independent telecommunications service providers throughout Montana. The Montana Telecommunications Association is a non-profit corporation. The Association represents its members before the Montana Public Service Commission, other state and federal agencies, Congress and the Montana Legislature.
MTA member companies provide local residential and business phone services, as well as a full-spectrum of other telecommunications services including broadband and dial-up Internet; satellite TV, competitive local exchange and wireless services, long distance, etc. MTA members have over $500 million of plant (telecommunications infrastructure assets) in service in Montana and invest over $50 million each year in new facilities and services serving primarily rural Montana. They provide access to broadband Internet service to over 80% - and often near 100% - of their customers, with the highest quality communications services in the industry. MTA members employ 635 proud Montanans, earning over $50 million in salary and benefits.
The President of MTA's Board of Directors is Bill Squires, Sr. Vice President and General Counsel of Blackfoot Telephone Cooperative in Missoula, MT. MTA's Vice President is Robert Adams, President of Range Telephone Cooperative in Forsyth, MT. Laurence Walchuk is MTA's Secretary/Treasurer, and a Supervisor of Hot Springs Telephone Co. in Hot Springs, MT. MTA's General Manager is Geoff Feiss. Other MTA members include CenturyTel out of Kalispell, MT; Frontier Communications out of Libby, MT; Lincoln Telephone Company out of Lincoln, MT; and 3 Rivers Communications out of Ennis, MT and Southern Montana Telephone Company located in Wisdom, MT.
